Inside job

I did not design the cover of this book—that was a group effort between our two creative directors and the publisher at the time that I wanted no part of. I did, however, design the interior long before the cover was finalized. While working on the frontmatter, I took a picture of the magazines I had shelved in my office and suggested that we use it for the title page. But we had a policy of only including images in the book that were part of the NatGeo Image Collection. Mark Thiessen—our studio photographer—recreated the shot, and it was accepted into the collection just in time to make it onto our title page.
